The Fern and The Bamboo (เรื่องราวของต้นเฟริ์นและไผ่)

ผมไปอ่านเรื่องนี้ครั้งแรกที่ blogของคุณเจน เพื่อนน้องแนน
เป็นเรื่องราวดีๆสอนใจ ที่ผมอยากนำมาเก็บไว้แบ่งกันอ่านครับ :D

One day I decided to quit...I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality....
I wanted to quit my life. I went to the woods to have one last talk with God.
วันนึง ฉันตัดสินใจที่จะหยุด หยุดทุกอย่าง ลาออกจากงาน เลิกกับแฟน อยู่อย่างถอดใจ..
ฉันอยากจะหยุดชีวิตตัวเอง เลยเดินเข้าป่าไปพูดคุยครั้งสุดท้ายกับพระเจ้า
"God", I said. "Can you give me one good reason not to quit?"
"ท่านคะ" ฉันพูด "มีเหตุผลดีๆของการที่จะอยู่ต่อไปไหม?"
His answer surprised me.
ก็ได้รับคำตอบจากท่าน ที่ทำให้ฉันแปลกใจ
"Look around", He said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"
"มองไปรอบๆนะ" ท่านพูด "เจ้าเห็นต้นเฟริ์นกับต้นไผ่ไหม?"
"Yes", I replied.
"เห็นค่ะ" ฉันตอบ
"When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them.
"เมื่อตอนที่เอาเมล็ดของต้นเฟริ๋นกับต้นไผ่มาปลูกนะ เราดูแลอย่างดี
I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth.
เราให้แสง ให้น้ำ ไม่นาน ต้นเฟริ์นก็เติบโตอย่างรวดเร็ว
Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed.
จนปกคลุมผืนดินให้เป็นสีเขียวทั่วไปหมด ... แต่ยังไม่มีอะไรออกมาจากเมล็ดของต้นไผ่
But I did not quit on the bamboo.
แต่เรายังไม่ถอดใจกับต้นไผ่นะ
In the second year the fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed.
ในปีที่สอง ต้นเฟริ์นเจริญงอกงามยิ่งขึ้นไปอีก .. แต่ก็อีก ไม่มีอะไรออกมาจากเมล็ดไผ่
But I did not quit on the bamboo.
แต่เราก็ยังไม่ถอดใจกับต้นไผ่
"In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed.
ในปีที่สาม .. ก็ยังไม่มีอะไรงอกออกมาจากเมล็ดไผ่เลย
But I would not quit. The same in year four.
แต่เราก็ยังไม่ถอดใจ ... แต่มันก็ยังเหมือนเดิมในปีที่สี่ ที่ไม่มีอะไรงอกออกมาจากเมล็ดไผ่
"Then in the fifth year, a tiny sprout emerged from the earth.
ต่อมาในปีที่ห้า ... ถึงจะมีหน่อไผ่เล็กๆผุดออกมาจากพื้นดินให้เราได้เห็น
Compared to the fern, it was seemingly small and insignificant.
เปรียบเทียบกับเฟริ์นนะ .. หน่อไผ่ดูเล็กไปถนัดตาเลย
But just six months later, the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall.
แต่ในอีกหกเดือนถัดมา ต้นไผ่งอกขึ้นสูงกว่า 100 ฟุต
It had spent the five years growing roots.
มันใช้เวลางอกรากของมันถึงห้าปี
Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive.
รากที่ใช้เวลาห้าปีในการงอกนั้นทำให้ไผ่แข็งแรง และยืนหยัดอยู่ได้
I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle.
เราคงไม่ให้สิ่งที่เราสร้างขึ้น ทำอะไรที่เกินตัว.. ที่มันไม่สามารถจะทำได้
"Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, You have actually been growing roots?
เจ้ารู้สึกบ้างหรือเปล่า ทุกๆครั้งที่เจ้ารู้สึกติดอยู่กับอะไรสักอย่างหนึ่ง.. เจ้ากำลังเติบโตรากฐานของตัวเจ้าเอง?
I would not quit on the bamboo.
เราไม่ยอมพ้กับต้นไผ่
I will never quit on you.
เราก็จะไม่ยอมแพ้ในนตัวเจ้าเช่นกัน
"Don't compare yourself to others." He said.
"อย่าเอาตัวเองไปเปรียบเทียบกับผู้อื่น" ท่านบอก
"The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern. Yet they both make the forest beautiful.
"ต้นไผ่มีหน้าที่แตกต่างจากต้นเฟริ์น แต่ทั้งไผ่และเฟริ๋นต่างก็ทำให้ป่าดูสวยงาม"
"Your time will come", God said to me. "You will rise high"
"เวลาของเจ้าจะมาถึงเอง" ท่านบอกกับฉัน "เจ้าจะโตสูงขึ้นไปกว่านี้"
"How high should I rise?" I asked.
"ฉันควรจะขึ้นไปสูงเท่าไหร่ดี?" ฉันถาม
"How high will the bamboo rise?" He asked in return.
"แล้วเจ้าคิดว่าต้นไผ่มันสูงได้เท่าไหร่ล่ะ?" ท่านถามกลับ
"As high as it can?" I questioned
"สูงเท่าที่มันจะไปได้" ฉันตอบ
"Yes." He said, "Give me glory by rising as high as you can."
"ใช่แล้ว" ท่าตอบ "ขึ้นไปให้สูงที่สุดเท่าที่เจ้าจะไปได้เราก็ดีใจแล้ว"
I left the forest, realizing that God will never give up on me.
ฉันกลับออกมา พร้อมกับคิดได้ว่าพระเจ้าจะไม่มีวันทอดทิ้งฉัน
And He will never give up on you.
และท่านก็จะไม่มีวันทอดทิ้งเรา
Never regret a day in your life.
อย่ามัวเศร้ากับวันเวลาที่ผ่านไป
Good days give you happiness;
วันดีๆทำให้เรามีความสุข
Bad days give you experiences;
วันแย่ๆทำให้เราได้เรียนรู้
Both are essential to life.
ทั้งสองสิ่งนี้ล่ะ ที่ชีวิตเราขาดไม่ได้

จริงๆเรื่องนี้เป็นคล้ายๆกับ Forward mail มาอีกทีนะ พี่ลองหาต้นฉบับแล้ว ไม่รู้ว่ามายังไง มีเต็มไปหมดเลยในเน็ท แต่พี่เห็นครั้งแรกจาก blog ของคุณเจน อ่าค่ะ :D
